FTC Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
This was a quick. simple read that was nonetheless quite intense, packed with action and never a dull moment. It’s not my usual reading fare, but it was a great way to spend an afternoon.
Characters: Dunya and Rado are a good couple with an interesting dynamic that works well to fuel the plot. They both have good, well-developed arcs and are realistic and relatable.
Content: A married couple kisses. A woman ponders her potential infertility.
Characters are abducted and treated harshly. It’s implied that characters are executed.
Writing: The plot flows well, with excellent pacing and just the right amount of intensity. The worldbuilding is good, too; this feels like a real place!
I was a bit confused by all the different factions and governments, but that could just be because I’ve only read one other of the books in this 6-book series.
Summary: Though not my typical type of story, this was a good read with great themes like holding onto hope and trusting God in the bleakest of circumstances. I’d recommend it to fans of dystopian fiction aged 13+.
